final project

For my final project for IDT 516, I am going to do a lesson plan that will utilize Glogster.com. Glogs are online posters that can be used to present information from different sources all brought together in one place. A specific topic can be assigned and all parts of the glog will relate to that topic and be utilized in the presentation of that topic to the class. For this project though, I will not assign a topic but allow the learners to play with the glog to familiarize themselves with its abilities and being creative. Learners will choose a theme, insert graphics, motion graphics, photos with and without text and frames, text boxes, utilize effects, link to video, hyperliinks, uploading images, "grabbing" images, music or a voice recording. These posters are a great "set the stage" for a presentation and all of the links to whatever is needed or created from videos, to prezi's, to a written report can be linked and/or embedded.

  1. This is the first time I've heard about Glogster.com. Your project sounds like it will be very "hands on" and a great way to learn how to navigate the website.

  2. I have used Glogster before and my students LOVED it! It was a choice of a project they could do at the end of a unit. They used it like a review and posted information about the topic. They included videos, pictures, and mathematical explanations. I had another teacher ask me about using it for her class because when they presented a project some students asked if they could do Glogster instead of a Prezi. It's pretty neat & very user friendly!

    1. That is exactly what I was looking at it for. I see it being used as an end of unit wrap up that allows the students to present what they have learned by building the glog. Reinforcement of the material is happening without the students realizing it! And it is fun and different which I think attracts both the developer and the viewer of the presentation.

    2. Yes, ma'am! I was looking at Julie's blog earlier and her project over using QR Codes. I had the thought to have the students use Educreations to do a review problem and then have them turn that into a QR Code to put on the review sheet. I could give them the option of creating a Glog, Prezi, or using Educreations instead of forcing them to use a certain application. Then, they could turn that into a QR Code I could put on the review sheet for others to access. Thanks for the reminder of how much students love to have choice and be creative!

  3. Dawn,
Glogster sounds really interesting. I am going to have to look into it. I can't wait to see what it looks like.

    1. It is a lot of fun and has many options to create an online poster that can be used for presentations or just to summarize what the student has gained throughout the unit.

  4. Sounds like a cool project. I have not used Glogster so am curious to see how it works.

  5. My sophomore daughter did the tutorial for me. It took her about 45 minutes but she did not have to complete the feedback form - we did that in the form of questions so I could report on it for IDT 510.
